How to tell whether your bedroom is ready for a renovation

Your bedroom is not just the room in the house where you sleep at night, it should also be a place of peace and relaxation. When it starts to become tired, it can affect the way that you rest, and so it can be worth giving it a spruce up to help you get a good night’s sleep. Here are our key signs that it might be time for some bedroom renovations.

Bedroom renovation

You don’t spend much time there

When your bedroom loses its appeal, it won’t be a place that you want to spend much time in. It should be a room to escape to, not one to escape from, so if you feel as though it is somewhere that you tend to avoid, then it might be worth doing some work on it.

Your sleep is affected

We all need to sleep well in order to support our physical and mental wellbeing. We put together healthy bedtime routines and do all we can to get those precious eight hours, but if you still find that you are having trouble sleeping, then it could be the room that you are in that is to blame.

If you feel uncomfortable while you sleep then it might be time for a new bed or mattress, whilst being too hot or too cold could mean you need to look at your bedding or curtains. Things like the colour palette of the room, the way your furniture is arranged, and the style of the room can all affect how you sleep, so pay close attention to the smallest of details.

A cluttered room is a cluttered mind

A build up of clutter in your bedroom can also affect your ability to switch off, and you can often feel uncomfortable being amongst it without even realising. If your room is becoming cluttered, it might need more than a quick tidy up, so have a look at some new storage solutions that could solve your problems. There are a number of practical options that can fit inside your wardrobe or under your bed, meaning that it is possible to find extra storage space even in the smallest of rooms.

The lights aren’t right

Your bedroom is probably one of the most important rooms in the house to get the lighting right. If you are someone who likes to sleep in complete darkness, then you might want to install blackout blinds or curtains, whilst those who are less keen on the pitch black could benefit from some subtle lighting.

Being able to dim the lighting can help your body to become ready for sleep, so fitting dimmers or some lamps can help you to lose the starkness of your normal lights. However, it should not be forgotten that your bedroom is also often where you get ready for the day, and so you will need brighter lights for getting dressed and applying make-up.

Mould

Mould is a good indicator that it is time to refresh your bedroom. It is a common place for it to start to appear, as it can have quite a humid atmosphere. Mould can therefore start to form behind furniture and can affect anything that is nearby. If you do find mould in your bedroom, you will need to tackle the problem first and consider the ventilation in the room, before thinking about redecorating.

It is important that you love your bedroom in order for it to fulfil its role, so it is important that you show it a bit of love in return. Whether you need a full renovation or a few tweaks, changing your bedroom can change everything!
